When Apple released its Apple Watch in March this year, there was a big buzz in the market with analysts questioning whether this new product could boost Apple’s sales.
Interestingly, Trip Chowdhry, an analyst from Global Equities Research, claims that Apple has already sold 7 million units.
Is this possible?
According to Chowdhry, his information comes from a reliable inside source which has access to a system which records the Watch orders.
On the 10th of April, the Apple Watch went on sale and prior to this date, customers were able to pre-order these watches. Since launching this new product, Apple (AAPL, -0.44%) has not yet disclosed any official data on the orders for this device as well as the volume of sales. Since the 24th of April, the Apple Watch has been available for general sales but online only. These devices are not yet being sold in stores.
In his note, Chowdhry explained that the demand for the Apple Watch is climbing and he believes that Apple has already shipped over 2.5 million units which means by the end of June this year, the company could easily ship another 5 million units.
Based on these predictions, Chowdhry also speculates that by the end of the year, Apple will deliver between 40 to 42 million units at an average selling price of $575. This will be boosted by sales over Christmas which is also expected to become an ‘Apple Watch Christmas’.
Thanks to applications from Oracle, IBM, SAP, Zoho and Salesforce.com, Apple Watch will be driven into the enterprise.
Chowdhry commented that his stats are based on a variety of tracking methods which have over 85% accuracy. He did not provide additional information as to how he reached his numbers and statistics.
Added to this, Chowdhry claimed that both he and his staff have attended over 15 events where developers work closely with the Apple SDK (software-development kit). He also claims that he has spoken to over 250 Apple Watch owners and observed over five thousand Apple users.
The shares of Apple are currently trading at $129.96 a share.
